The unmanned SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket exploded during a test in Florida on Thursday, destroying  the Israeli-built and -owned Amos-6 satellite that Facebook planned to use to beam high-speed internet to sub-Saharan Africa. Amos-6 manufacturer Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) said the satellite was “the largest and most advanced communications satellite ever built in Israel.
ISA chairman Yitzchak Ben-Yisrael said the incident could jeopardize a pending deal for the sale of private Israeli firm and Amos-operator Spacecom to China’s Xinwei group, reportedly worth $285 million and conditional on the satellite successfully entering service.
If it orders a new satellite, it will take between two and three years to fill the gap.
According to the Israeli business paper Globes’, a successful launch of the satellite would have yielded Spacecom $100million from Facebook and another $164 million from the Israeli government. And while the satellite itself was insured for $330 million, the company had issued bonds of some NIS 1 billion ($265.5 million) to fund the project.

The blast reportedly shattered windows nearby, knocked sliding doors off peoples’ homes farther away, and was heard as far as 30 miles from SLC-40, according to local Florida TV stations.

Loss of Falcon vehicle today during propellant fill operation. Originated around upper stage oxygen tank. Cause still unknown. More soon.

Elon Musk says astronauts would have been safe in the blast.

Update on this morning’s anomaly

Statement on this morning’s anomaly

Thanks to , and others for helping us respond to today’s anomaly. Very grateful for your efforts.

Full statement SpaceX

To identify the root cause of the anomaly, SpaceX began its investigation immediately after the loss, consistent with accident investigation plans prepared for such a contingency.  These plans include the preservation of all possible evidence and the assembly of an Accident Investigation Team, with oversight by the Federal Aviation Administration and participation by NASA, the United States Air Force and other industry experts.  We are currently in the early process of reviewing approximately 3000 channels of telemetry and video data covering a time period of just 35-55 milliseconds.

Bird hypothesis: Space X Rocket Explosion “UFO” was Actually a Bird — A Case Study of Communal or Group Truth Seeking

To clarify my personal opinion: there are no aliens, extraterrestrials or UFOs. It is my opinion that white hat intervention has taken pace using technology people mustn’t know about as their world view will collapse as a result.

I thank the angelic troublemakers for looking out for mankind.
